Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for information.
An important official said the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
